I think nurses are one of the most noble occupations, next to teachers.
It really takes a passion to take care of people to take up the job.
Attending to patients of all kinds, from the chirpy and lively one (like my mother who loves to talk with anyone), to the grumpy, to the really frail ones, to the healthy ones but throwing tantrums.
Making sure every patient takes the correct medicine at the correct times, and always there when a patient needs to go toilet, needs to change clothes, change diapers or simply need help.
And they work around the clock in rotating shifts, making it even more tiring.
Another group of people working in hospitals worth mentioning is the AhMas. They are like part time cleaners, part time nurses. Delivering meals, cleaning the beds and room for the next patient, and helping the nurses where possible (eg bringing the bedpan), and responding to calls when the nurses are not available.
International nurses day is on May 12!
